GEROtherm® VARIO - Santuario del Sacro Cuore di Gesù Loc. Cà Staccolo in IT - Urbino (PU)

Construction of the Sacro Cuore hermitage began back in 2002. Since then, the work has been delayed again and again. The last stage to complete the works inside began on May 18, 2020, will last 13 months and will require 2.8 million euros, of which 2.2 million will be covered by the State. The rest will be covered by the Foundation "Opera del Sacro Cuore di Gesù", created in 1993 by Don Elia Bellebono,. The original project included the construction of the chapel, the sanctuary, a large parking lot and a house for university students. The site covers 22 hectares of land in Ca' Staccolo, Urbino, which was purchased directly from Don Elia and is now owned by the Foundation.
The cornerstone for the Shrine was laid in 1998. It is a very special stone, which today is kept in the chapel. At its side is the photo of Don Elia, who died 20 years ago. All the work to create the chapel was financed entirely by numerous donations from all over the country. The project had been designed by the Japanese architect Yasuo Watanabe with the artistic support of the artists Walter Valentini and Vincenzo Tiboni.
When the works are completed, the Foundation will donate the entire structure to the Fraternity of the Jesuits, according to the will of the priest Don Elia.

DECISION FOR AIR CONDITIONING WITH GEOTHERMAL ENERGY:

In collaboration with the University of Urbino, the parish, as the client, has chosen a system with geothermal energy. A first test drilling with a conical geothermal probe GEROtherm® VARIO de40 with a length of 200 m was already made in 2018. GEROtherm® VARIO probes are characterized by variable wall thicknesses, which allows the pressure loss in the probe circuit to be significantly reduced. As a result, the circulation pump requires less energy, which is noticeable through a higher efficiency of the system.
Based on the test drilling, 10 geothermal probes were projected for the entire plant. This should produce 100 kW of thermal energy. At the end of June 2020, the drilling works for the additional 9 probes were started. The drilling company Georicerche from Due Carrare, which is very familiar with geothermal drilling, carried out this work with its experienced team and a new double-head drilling rig from Comacchio. With this machine, drilling to a depth of 250 m is possible.
