DESCRIPTION:

The start of the 2024/­25 school year saw the opening of a new educational institution for 1,600 children and young people on the site of the former Floridsdorf hospital. Covering an area of approximately 10,300 square metres, the site includes a kindergarten with room for 7 groups, a full-day primary school with 17 classes and a full-day secondary school with 16 classes.

Deep probes were installed to regulate the temperature in the building, with the heating/­cooling primarily provided through the activation of building components. In addition to providing energy-efficient heating in winter, this approach also allows for temperature control in summer.

To heat and cool the extension, 35 GEROtherm^® DUPLEX geothermal probes were sunk to a depth of 135 m.
